The Rookies Monthly Art Challenge: Growth
In a world of monotonous days and routine, the sudden growth of something vibrant and out of place is perceived as a catastrophe
The art production process:
1. 3D Blockout & Composition (Blender)
Started with establishing the main camera angle and spatial composition using rule-of-thirds and lead-in lines. Sculpted the terrain, modeled 6 modular building variants, and distributed them to create depth across the foreground, midground, and background.
2. Texturing and Lighting (Blender)
Materials were applied using BlenderKit and custom nodes via triplanar mapping, which allowed us to maintain workflow speed without unwrapping UV coordinates. To create the atmosphere, an HDRI map was set up in combination with directional light sources.
3. Digital Overpaint (Photoshop)
Focused heavily on focal points, adding dirt, weathering, light glows, and subtle environmental details through heavy digital overpaint to give the render a handcrafted, cinematic look.
4. Post-Processing (Lightroom)
Completed the final color grading, adjusted contrast, and added subtle grain and vignetting to lock in the cinematic mood.
